Viral Book Marketing
Drew Gerber recently blogged about the YouTube top ten viral videos for 2010. Drew cited Katherine Tasheff, Executive Director of Digital Media and Marketing at Hyperion as identifying three common elements of viral videos which are authenticity, connection and visceral. In other words they should “speak” to the viewer on a human level; touch them emotionally using humor, sympathy (pathos) or surprise; and it should be something they want to share. This is not as easy as it sounds but it is a good objective for any video project and by doing so may have the result of reaching viral status. However all this talk about viral video risks making people who have more modest success seem inadequate. The virals very often are not product related. They are typically people doing goofy stuff. The only way to increase your business or sell more product from them is to advertise over them. But what if you could get one thousand or ten thousand potential readers watch your video? Not viral status but a nice step toward getting your book in the hands of potential readers. Most independent book promoters such as self published authors and small publishers do not have the resources to create an outrageous video that may draw attention to the video but not really to their book. The first thing book sellers need is a book video trailer that engages their potential reader and is produced to help the reader decide if this is a book they want to buy or know more about. In the realm of marketing I think the viral video is akin to a publicity stunt. When it is achieved it is good for drawing attention to a brand and is best suited for consumer products that have a broad base of potential customers. Those marketers who are operating within a niche would be better served to use a more conventional marketing approach which is to know who your potential client is and communicate directly with them. Use video to communicate with that market and pay attention to the three points above, as they are good rules regarding any video communication in general.

Three Kinds of Happiness
Is there more than one way to be happy?University of Pennsylvania professor Martin Seligman, leader of the positive psychology movement that studies emotionally successful lives instead of troubled ones, identifies 3 distinct kinds of happiness. The first is pleasure, the kind of enjoyment people seek in choosing to have fun. Pleasure-seeking behavior includes the company of friends, entertainment, good food, relaxation etc. The second aspect of happiness is engagement. Also called “flow”, this kind of happy feeling is a state of being so wrapped up in an activity that we lose ourselves in it. Playing competitive sports is one example. Some people feel that level of engagement at work, or even doing crossword puzzles. The third kind of happiness is that which gives life meaning, generally a result of acting in service of other people and higher ideals. All three kinds of happiness are valid. Which is the most satisfying in the long run?Prof. Seligman’s research is clear. The pursuit of pleasure provides only a temporary benefit with no lasting impact. Fun activities are wonderful in the moment but the happiness they cause does not last once the activity is over. Engagement is richer, resulting in a deeper satisfaction that often persists after the activity is finished. It’s the third type of happiness, meaning, that provides the greatest and most enduring satisfaction. There are many examples. Every parent knows that sometimes you need to make sacrifices for the good of your children, and those sacrifices are key to the emotional rewards parenting brings. In the public arena, service that is genuinely focused on improving the lives of others enhances your own self-esteem and happiness. That’s why so many of us volunteer in all sorts of civic and service activities.Even at your job, finding the service element makes any work more rewarding. The hairdresser who sees her job as making people feel more beautiful and confident will find work more rewarding than the one who simply cuts hair. The urban policeman who makes his city safe for residents and visitors will feel better about his work than the one who just directs traffic or gives out tickets. The corporate executive who provides valuable goods and services to individuals and families will have greater job satisfaction than the one who goes to work every day just to beat his competitor or earn a paycheck. In your desire for happiness, which approach do you take? Are you looking just for fun? Or do you pursue meaning by serving the well-being of others?Albert Schweitzer, the German-born doctor who devoted his life to helping the poor in Africa said, “The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others.” Prof. Seligman’s research confirms that service that generates meaning is indeed the best road to happiness.

The Top 5 Impact Rookie Fantasy Basketball Players For 2008-2009
The 2008 NBA Lottery Draft was somewhat predictable, even if the Miami Heat made noise that they were going to bypass prized Kansas State alum Michael Beasley. After the dust has settled, fantasy basketball owners can look toward the season and try to take stock of the different picks. In no particular order, below are the top five impact rookies for 2008-2009 and how they might fare in the coming season.Derrick Rose, PG, Bulls: Rose will likely man the point guard position all season as the Bulls try to rebound from a nightmarish 2007-2008 season. He is not particularly a great scorer yet, as he showed at Memphis, but he can definitely handle the ball, play solid defense and help his teammates improve. Hoping for a Chris Paul-like contribution from the youngster is quite optimistic, but he has the upside to really help fantasy owners in steals and assists.Michael Beasley, PF, Heat: Many were discouraged by Beasley’s official height and some other off the court concerns, but he was arguably the top college performer available in the draft. He ended last season ranked second in points and second in rebounds last season as a freshmen, which is no small feat considering the level of competition that he faced in the Big 12. He should not be expected to make as big of an impact in his rookie season against taller competition, but he should still be the consensus pick for fantasy basketball Rookie of the Year because of his scoring ability.O.J. Mayo, SG, Grizzles: Mayo found himself in Memphis after a draft night trade. There are plenty of points to be had in Memphis, as there were in Minnesota. Mayo will see his share of minutes, and he likely has better point-scoring ability than top pick Derrick Rose for the immediate future. Plus, you have to love his wardrobe already.Kevin Love, PF, Timberwolves: The Wolves are still trying to fill the void left by new NBA Champion Kevin Garnett. Love does not have the pure ability of Garnett, but his game is also different. Love will take a shot from the outside every now and then, and he can also pull down the boards rather well. There are reasons that Garnett’s point total dwindled last season, and it is not just age.Joe Alexander, SF, Bucks: You would be hard-pressed to find a more athletic player for his size in all of college basketball last season than Alexander. His ascent is truly amazing, as he grew up in Asia and didn’t start playing basketball until a late age. The Bucks took him with the eighth overall pick, but they don’t exactly have a hole waiting for him after acquiring Richard Jefferson in a trade. He has plenty of upside, but he needs some help.

The Prominence Of Persistent Volleyball And Basketball Training
Like any other sport, it’s essential to always perform basketball training along with practice to be successful in playing basketball. People with height advantage can simply make it, yet even shorter players can also make it to the professional level as long as they’re well-trained and their ideal game.
In case you wish to be one of the finest basketball players inside your team, training correctly is essential to be productive. Below are a few volleyball and basketball training tips created to support you enhance your game and assist you to become a greater player. 1. Basketball and Volleyball Training Drills – It’s essential for players to know about ball control when playing basketball. Actually, even pros are practicing on this aspect continuously. Dribbling is one of the extremely crucial aspects of ball control also it takes to be exercised every day. Making use of your fingertips, you can bounce the ball towards the ground with sufficient amount of force in a manner that it could enable the ball to reach the height of the waist. This wants to be done with one hand, passing it forward and backward between every of your hand. The players need to then have the ability to dribble so effortlessly with the dominant hand, and therefore the non-dominant hand. 2. Shooting Drill – If you can already control the ball with both hands efficiently, the next factor you’ll need to work with are your shooting skills. Most professional players spend lots of time daily in basketball training and to exercise their shooting skills. One of the wonderful drills is to play all over the world that involves shooting the ball into the basket from various areas on among the court. 3. Defensive Drills – Although making baskets are important, playing defense is equally crucial. Rebounding is a significant part of defense and teams that are able to score greater in rebounds carry a higher opportunity of winning the overall game. This is due to the fact they don’t enable their opponents to score baskets. Have one of the players throw the basketball at the backboard as well as miss the basket on a purpose even though the other players attempt to rebound the ball. For three to four times each week during practice classes, this drill needs to be completed and achieved. These three ideas will provide you the benefit of staying ahead within the game as well as enhancing your playing skills. In the event you take these strategies seriously, it wouldn’t be impossible for you to gain the most coveted title of being essentially the most Valuable Player of the game.

Tips for Entertaining Like the Wealthy
The other day I was flicking through a glossy magazine and yet another photograph of an elegant party caught my eye and I remembered a friend of mine saying just the day before, ‘well of course you can entertain well when you have lots of money but I could never entertain like that’.
Actually, she was wrong, she could, and after our conversation, she had already vowed that she would.
Here are some tips that I have picked up both from my own entertaining and from observing that of my friends -guaranteed to boost your entertaining to the next level and reduce your stress!
Food:
Keep it easy – no recipes that require more than two dishes to wash.
Use simple flavors, really simple ingredients but the best you can find.
Only use recipes that you have practiced ahead of time – no experimenting on your guests!
Don’t make something with a high degree of difficulty or that requires split second timing to serve.
Beverages:
Flat and sparkling water
A tangy juice for those who don’t drink alcoholic beverages – such as cranberry juice, pomegranate juice or a sparkling grape juice.
A good red wine and a good white wine. It used to be that we were told to serve only red with meat dishes, and duck; white with fish, seafood, chicken, turkey and goose. Now I have found that people tend to be more ‘white’ drinkers or ‘red’ drinkers regardless of the food pairing. Why insist on following some rule?
Don’t go by price for your wines, go by what you know and like.
Fresh tea and coffee.
Seating:
A round table, no more than 54” in diameter for groups of six or less makes for the best conversation.
Include at least one unexpected person, someone who is not part of your usual group.
If you are using a long table, put the two most talkative and interesting people in the center facing each other so that everyone can feel included. Keeping the width of a long table to 30” or less also aids inclusive conversations.
Have narrow, comfortable dining room chairs so that you can squeeze as many people as possible around the table.
Flowers:
Fresh flowers are lovely and a must somewhere in the room – just not on the dining room table. Unless the arrangement is very low they act as a physical barrier to conversation.
Avoid heavily scented flowers such as lilies.
Note: if you are a guest at a dinner party and want to send flowers do so either before or after the dinner to minimize the distractions for your hostess.
Candles:
Candles are lovely on the table and very flattering to everyone but like flowers they should be kept low, for examples clusters of votive candles, to keep the sight lines open and the conversation flowing!
Don’t use scented candles as, like flowers, the scent can interfere with the enjoyment of the food and the wine, plus some people are sensitive to these scents.
Dress:
It’s a fact – people behave differently when they have dressed up, encourage this.
Conversation:
There is a famous saying: ‘Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and little minds discuss people’. Try to keep the conversation average to great.
These are some of the mechanics of hosting like the wealthy do. But the key ingredient, the one that is going to give you the most memorable experience is, of course, the guests you invite.
The wealthiest experience is not in the quality of the wine, the provenance of the china or the weight of the silver spoons. It is in the richness of the conversation and the warmth of the feeling. If you choose to surround yourself with people who are relaxed (nobody looking to impress or dominate the conversation), interested in the world around them and varied in talents and backgrounds you will have an entertaining evening. And that’s a wealthy choice.

The Nitty-Gritty Of Ezine Publishing
I sat here this morning, and decided to work out exactly how much time I use on creating my weekly ezine, and I almost kinda shocked myself. I`m not the ONLY publisher who refuses to automate, so please, after reading my hours, spare a kind thought for all those other publishers out there that do everything manually, and who really take the time to get down to a personal level with their subscribers. Typical daily hours for me as an ezine publisher- Reading other ezines/newsletters: About 4 hours per day.- Looking for the right content: 5-6 hours per day- Checking email other than newsletters: 5 hours per day- Getting rid of junkmail: 3 hours per day- Staying in touch with other publishers, website owners etc.: 3 hours per day- Working on learning html: 2-3 hours pr day- Updating ezine, ads and slot-ads with Rich, my programmer: 6 hours per day (with about 10 hours “allsorts” chat too)- Looking in forums for things of interest: 1-2 hours per day- Reviewing articles for possible publication: 3-4 hours per day- Chatting on msn and yahoo messengers, whilst looking for more ideas and helping people: 12 hours per day- Promoting ezine: At LEAST 4 hours per day (including submitting my own articles)That 53 hours per day. Thank my lucky starts I`m great at mutli-tasking…heheheRemember, a lot of us do this to bring you information that we hope will help you in some way or other, and I know how much it brightens up my day when I get a mail saying “Great issue, Anna, Keep up the good work!” So I`m guessing a lot of other ezine owners would really appreciate something like that.Putting out an ezine is a LOT more than just slapping together a couple of articles and a bunch of ads in an email, or on a website. I know there`s a lot of that going around too (I DO actually get tons of those ones in my mailbax daily too), so if you`re subscribed to a great ezine, take the time to let the publisher know, vote for them, recommend them to your friends, most importantly: Give Them Your Feedback!! At the same time, if there`s something you DON`T like, let them know that too. Without subscriber feedback, we`re basically just poking around in the dark, hoping that we are giving people what they want. We are there for you, please be there for us.Anna-Marie Stewart-=-=-=-=-=-=-Resource Box-=-=-=–=-=-=-=-How to easily avoid those contrived Scams, Shams, andSpam.
